Introducing: ‘Mini’ 8-Bit Evolved Gaming (Autism Friendly)

Following the success of our 8-Bit Evolved Gaming Nites we have started one for our younger gamers.  Taking place at our Studio in West Studios, Chesterfield we co-host the  ‘Mini’ 8-Bit Evolved Gaming Mornings each month; especially for young ‘uns’ aged 9 – 15. These Autism Friendly events are a great place to game with like-minded other young ‘uns’, make new friends, socialize and chat about everything gaming in a safe enviroment.

All games or challenges from games are aged appropriately.  Parents and carers are welcome to drop off and pick up and can either stay within easy reach by chilling out in West Studios Cafe and Shop or nip into Chesterfield Town.

Pre-registration is required. The cost is £8.00 per person with drinks and snacks included. Interested please contact the studio on ginger@sparkyink.co.uk or check out our info and make contact through our website at www.sparkyink.co.uk.

Payment is on the day either by cash or bank transfer prior to the event. Alternatively you can purchase a non-refundable season pass for ‘3’ 8-Bit Evolved gaming mornings which has a 10% discount.

NEW! “MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU” Fan-Based Star Wars animation by Student Lewis

A few weeks ago, Sparky Ink Studio Student; Lewis began creating a Fun and Amazing Fan-based Star Wars Stop-motion animation.  The animation was created using Lego MiniFigs (found under the bed) and the snowmen were created in super brill detail by support Holly.  The Story evolved into a small adventure where Luke Skywalker and his team of Snowmen (some Zombie) capture The Dark Lord Darth Vader – Luke’s dad.  The snowmen mean business.

Lewis worked with Studio Digital Editor Josh to create some create terrific Visual Special effects to show Darth Vader’s demise and create some wintry scenes.  Lewis turned Luke Skywalker into a bit of a rapper with the famous line “You are NOT my father!”

Back in March 2017 Team Yellow Banana created a little video for Red Nose DAy.  It wasn’t aired at the time in respect to the victims of the terrorist attack in London.  The Team felt now was a good time.  We hope you enjoy this claymation v’s rubber stop-motion animation.

Bad Dog? Mini Claymation by David Lewis

Earlier in the spring of 2017, Sparky Ink Studio was invited over to Derbyshire Autism Services Group Youth Club in Chesterfield to present a Crazy Taster session.  We had a fab time.

One of the young people there David Lewis made this little claymation and used the base colour white clay to great effect.  The assets for this mini Claymation were created on the evening and filmed straight after.  David had some animation experience before hand.  He was brilliant at working with the clay figures and filming to create a very smooth animation in such a small length of time.  Well done to David!

Bad Dog? This story is about a man who takes his dog for a walk.  The dog sees something and pulls away from the man pulling the man over when the lead snaps.  See what happens next…  The question is…Is this a Bad Dog?  Enjoy.  Please like and subscribe on our YouTube Channel.  Thank you for watching.

Autism Friendly Saturday workshops for kids aged 10+

From September we will be offering some new Fun sessions on Saturday afternoons for kids aged 10+.  These are social and chilled out sessions designed to engage the participants in Digital Story-telling through  Animation and/ or Games Design.  We also chill out together in a few multiplayer games in relaxed atmosphere.

5th 8-Bit Evolved Autism Friendly Gaming Nite

Oh yes it’s that time again.  This Saturday sees our established monthly Autism Friendly Gaming Nite for a 5th time and we have a real treat for our gamers!  Lots of Retro’s – by request of course and a few other ones…think unusual and fun controllers!

Josh will host with sidekick Jake!  This Saturday 26th August 2017, 6.30 pm to 9.00 pm. Snacks and Drinks.  Tickets: £5.00 for newbies and siblings. £10.00 for regulars. Important: Pre-registration required please contact us if you intent to come along so we can ensure there is a place for you.

OUR 1st BIRTHDAY!!!

HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY to our little Studio!!!  And a BIG THANKS to our ‘inkers and thinkers’

To Celebrate we have released a small stop-motion Animation starring our unique Studio Characters ‘Sparky’ and ‘Inky’ you can find it on this link for Youtube.  As Paper is the Anniversary gift for the 1st year we thought we’d create our animation using an old favourite Ink and Card.  The Animation was made as part of an 18 hour challenge which took place yesterday where we created the artwork, cut it all out and then animated and edited it.  Phew!

So we made it to the end of our Very First Year and hasn’t that year gone super fast! I’ve spent some time recently reflecting on the years before its important to remember how you got somewhere and the last few years have been challenging from working for shockingly bad people and being treated unfairly to working with great people where longtime friendships have been made.  When I had my light bulb moment I was working an underwriter at HSBC it was 2012 and I realised I wanted to be inspired to get on with stuff, I knew I wanted to do something more.  I was creative. loved writing stories and loved Gaming so much. Having children with Autism made me want to do something digital that I could include them in.  This was my light bulb moment and I worked over the following years to try to achieve my aim of becoming a businesswoman in Digital Story-telling.  

In 2016 I finally took the plunge. I knew I had to get on with it.  I wasn’t getting any younger and I didn’t want to end up working back in a Bank unless I really had no choice.  I started from home originally and looked around for a Studio.  In July 2016 I found a little Studio at West Studios in Chesterfield and began building my company.

It hasn’t been easy, from the onset I started the Studio up from Nothing.  Hence why all our productions carry the slogan ‘Starting from Nothing’ I have had no handouts or funding. Everything has been a result of personal savings and hard graft which makes the efforts and achievements so much more fulfilling.  

Since then I’ve had some fantastic support and we would like to take this opportunity to dedicate our latest video released today to all those who have supported us.: Family, Friends, West Studios, D2N2, Derbyshire County Council and all my students and their families.  I really appreciate your help, interest and direction and wouldn’t be here with out you guys.

So here’s to another year….

The 3rd Autism Friendly Gaming Nite

Last Saturday Sparky Ink Studio proudly hosted the 3rd 8-Bit Evolved Autism Friendly Gaming Nite.  We had an amazing nite playing retro/not-really-retro Nintendo Switch Bomberman and Mario Karts.

We’re still looking for more people to join the event so if you live in the Chessy area or would like to hook up virtually drop us a line.

8-Bit Evolved Autism Friendly Gaming Nite….Is BACK!

ONE WEEK TO GO…..To our Autism Friendly Gaming Nite is BACK on Saturday 24th June 2017.  The doors open at 6.30 pm for social gaming.  It’s tickets only guys so to order your ticket please use the contact page at our website www.sparkyink.co.uk and we will come back to you.  Tickets are £10.00 with a £5.00 subsidy for first-timers or siblings.  Tickets are payable on the night in cash or via bank transfer.

Our gaming nights are designed to be a fun social time in a safe environment with other gamers.  The session will be divided between retro and next Gen console gaming.  We also have a variety of games on Steam.  We’ve put a poll on our Facebook Page to see which Retro consoles and games people would like to play.  

It’s gonna’ be a top Banana Nite!
